Here are some places on the internet where you can do some investigation:

1. TrafficEstimate – Check this out to view the estimated number of visits to the site within the last month. This figure is only an estimate however at least it will give you some idea.
2. dnScoop – Allows you to search for any website and will display a wide variety of information such as Alexa rank, the monetary value of the site, Google page rank, backlinks, age and rough traffic numbers.
3. Alexa – Great site to compare your traffic to others. Does not show you any traffic numbers however all you need to do is compare your Alexa traffic rank to another site to get an idea.

So go do some snooping around and find out where your competitors stack up!

I thought this can’t be right and possibly there was an option I overlooked when setting up the Adsense ad. I couldn’t see anything wrong with the ad options I picked so I started to look around for answers.

What I found out is that you can add tags to certain areas of the text in your post to make sure that Google Adsense delivers ads based on just that sectioned off area of text.

Adversely, your other option is to use the <!-google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore)-> tag on areas of your site that you wish for Google to ignore keeping your Adsense ads targeted to what your blog is about. I prefer the latter method however both work just as well.

Make sure you check your site over for this problem as you could be missing out on revenue caused by miss-targeted ads.

In a previous post I did, I listed 100+ do-follow social bookmarking sites for you to use. Now the question remains how to bookmark with efficiency. You definitely do not want to sit there and bookmark your content one site at a time!

Fortunately, for the sake of our fingers, there is an automated web application called Social Marker and it does support most of the sites out there. With Social Marker, you are able to spread a link on 48 social bookmarking sites in under 15 minutes!  This is great since it’s free, nets you many backlinks, increases traffic and your link will get indexed by Google very rapidly. Just keep in mind that not all of the supported sites promote do-follow links.

Although Social Marker is compatible with all major internet browsers, they do recommend to use Firefox for a reason unbeknownst to me. Basically what Social Mark does is create a pre-populated box that will then be used to automatically fill in the information fields for each bookmarking site.

Search for the Social Marker Wordpress plug-in as All-In-One Bookmarking Button in the plug-in search box located within your Wordpress admin panel. Install and activate the plug-in and you’re all set since the little bookmarklet is automatically installed within your posts. When you click on the bookmarklet that the plug-in provides, you will be taken to Social Marker’s website where you can choose from the list of bookmarking services you wish to link on. The boxes in the upper left hand corner will already be populated with the URL and description so all you need to do is hit submit! Of course you need to have an account with each bookmarking service you are submitting to for this to work.

I touched on what a “nofollow” tag is in my How To Attract Comments On Your Blog article so please read that first if you are not familiar with the term.

You may be surprised to find that a lot of the large social bookmarking sites such as Delicious and Digg use the “nofollow” tag. This means you are not getting the Google page rank juice that you desire. It is not a total waste though to bookmark on the larger sites as your content may gain popularity and produce other types of exposure for you.  Also, remember that Google is not the only search engine out there and your bookmarks do have a chance of being copied resulting in links elsewhere.

So to help you out, I’ve done some research and have found out which bookmarking sites do not use the “nofollow” tag or their own version of a dynamic link (which Google also does not credit as a backlink). The sites are ordered by Google page rank.

Most affiliate marketers bid for ad exposure on Google Adwords mainly to attract people to a landing page designed to force a purchasing decision or the index of their site just to drive traffic numbers. While this method can get the desired traffic to your site or net you some purchases on the affiliate product, it doesn’t achieve both!

So how do you accomplish both gaining traffic to your site and selling a product at the same time? It’s simple! Create a post about a product you’ve reviewed such as an online service or eBook. Pre-sell the hell out of it by writing a compelling article on how this product or service can benefit the reader if they purchase it right now. Try to demonstrate the principal uses of the item at hand by providing examples of what it can do. Of course, you will need to include your affiliate link within the post and make it clear to the reader exactly what they need to do to get their hands on the product or service. The other thing you should not over look is try to add as many deep links to your other related posts as you possibly can.

Next, log into your Google Adwords account and set up your advertising campaign for that specific page on your blog. Do you see where I’m heading with this? Not only will this bring people into your blog, but also directly to a page that is selling something that may be of use to them (that is the reason they clicked on your Adwords ad in the first place right?). Remember the deep links to your other posts I told you about? These will serve as a pathway for visitors to explore other areas of you blog keeping them there longer and hopefully converting them into full fledged readers at the same time.

You could almost say that this technique serves three purposes – creating a sale, exposing your blog to new traffic and netting yourself some potential readers. I wish you luck and hope that this helps you to leverage the hell out of Google’s Adwords service and actually make you money at the same time. Google Adwords DOESN’T have to cost you money at the end of the day. It should MAKE you money. Why pay for advertising otherwise?

There is a piece of software on the market now called Tweet Adder.  This program will allow you to basically just set your search parameters to find and follow like-minded Twitter users (so that you are following people who are into the same thing as you and will likely follow you back) and then just forget about it while it does its job. To now get a large targeted Twitter list does not require babysitting it anymore!

Capitalizing Off Of Your Large Twitter List Using Ad.ly and Revtwt

The largest advantages to having a huge Twitter following is that you can use it as a tool to drive targeted people to you blog or website as well as market to them directly using Twitter. Some of the direct marketing methods I recommend are Ad.ly and Revtwt. Ad.ly is a system which couples you with an advertiser who pays you to make a Tweet. Revtwt helps you automate posting advertising Tweets (using content from their network) and every time someone clicks on your advertising Tweet in Twitter, you get paid for it.

Submitting to popular bookmarking sites is one method. But I have found that on a site like StumbleUpon, you need to upload quite a few articles until people actually start “stumbling” onto your content. This can be a very slow and inefficient method to get traffic.

However, I found that with using StumbleUpon’s URL shortening service (Su.pr) in conjunction with Twitter Tools and the Su.pr Twitter Tools API add-on plugin, you get article views immediately. Not only with these two plugins does your article get automatically published on Twitter, but also into the front line of StumbleUpon and I have also seen some visitors showing up from Twitturls.com-not sure why that is but I’m not complaining!

What’s great about Su.pr is that it is the only URL shortening service which drives traffic to your blog. It has a well built administration page that tracks all of the important information that you need to know. Information like traffic, clicks, referrers, stumbles and retweets. Probably the best information of all that it gives you is a line graph showing you the optimal times in the day of when to post your article to take advantage of maximum traffic time zones. Su.pr also provides a tweet scheduling option so that you can post a tweet at a time when you may not be able to get to the computer to do so.
