How To Attract Comments On Your Blog
I have just started this blog (my second one) only 8 days ago. Although it does not have many visitors yet since it’s not even close to being indexed by all of the major search engines, it still needs better interactivity. So I thought it would be a good idea to download wordpress plugins that reward my readers for commenting.
While searching through the Wordpress repository, I found two plugins that would do this. The first was called Top Commentators and you can see it over in my sidebar. What it does is display the hyperlinked names of the people who like to comment the most on my blog articles. What is the advantage of this you ask? Well the plugin lets me choose if I want their linked name to have a “No Follow” tag attached to it or not. A “No Follow” tag, for those of you who don’t know, is a piece of code within the hyper link that tells a search engine like Google when indexing the site it’s on not to follow the link to the pertaining website. By not following the link, the website to which that hyperlink is linked to does not get credit as a back link from Google. That website also does not get the “Google juice” from the website it’s linked on which would be a shame especially if that website has a higher Google page rank. So not only do my Top Commentators now get a search engine followed link, they also get their hyperlinked name placed in a more prominent position on my blog rather way down below a posting.
The second plugin I found was called JR_Follow. This allows you to disable the “No Follow” tag on your readers’ names in the comments section. So now everyone who posts gets a little bit of credit at the end of the day! Since a blog is not serious journalism, it’s important to promote a community-like feel and encourage people to speak their minds on your articles.
