3 Blogging Practices All Successful Bloggers Use
Patience is a virtue. How many times have we heard that saying before from our elders? I bet quite a few have and you know what, it’s true to the word. I started out blogging 3 years ago now with my first version of Informant Zone. Every day I was updating like mad and was over-the-top enthusiastic about it. Then the dreaded day came…..
I ran out of ideas of what to write about! At the time, Informant Zone was not just purely an automotive and motorsports blog. It was a blog of just about everything and I am not an expert on everything so I eventually ran out of conversation material.
The first lesson I learnt was that I should not try to build Rome in one day meaning, pace yourself in your posting timeline. Although search engines and blog directories do like blogs which are being constantly updated, it does not make that big of a difference if you write 1 post per day or 10 posts per day. There are better ways to gain traffic and I will talk about that in articles to come. It is good however to chose a posting frequency that you know you can maintain and stick to it.
The second lesson I learnt was not to have such a broad focus. You think you are expanding on the amount of topics you have to write about but really, if you only know a small portion of each topic then information wise it works out to being the same as thoroughly covering just one topic. For example, I went back to what I knew a lot about which was cars. From there I branched out (within same related focus of course) and started writing about car modifications and motorsports. Inherently, I had more to write about and I was keeping my blog content relatively consistent and did not scare my readers away.
The third lesson I learnt was to keep my patience. The saying “if you build it, they will come” does not hold true to blogs, you need to realize that growing blog readership does not happen overnight. I had tried to achieve this by making my blog everything to everybody and I just simply burnt myself out which led to me hating my blog. Again, keep your patience and focus on what you are good at writing about.
These are some of my philosophical observations that have helped me to build my readership indirectly helping my affiliate sales. To confirm my findings, I surfed the internet looking for other successful bloggers and by looking at their sites I found that they share the same philosophy on topic focus, posting frequency and personal mindset. One thing a lot of people forget is that their blog success is directly dependant on how they chose to operate it and these operation “guidelines” are a good way to start your blog on its path to success.
